Dancing With Meters: Self-Discovery Through Poetic Rhythm

In this intensive single-session, in-person workshop, we'll immerse ourselves in the palpable body of poetry’s original magic. We'll journey through the many basic meters of our language by reading aloud, chanting, creating, revising and sharing new poems. We'll chant into unforgettable moments from throughout the story of English poetry and find their timelessness within our own as we en-rhythm ourselves beyond writing and tap back into poetry's deep, original callings. While considering the entire spectrum of poetic meter in its full diversity, our consciousness will open to the power of words beyond their meaning as our brains attune to other modes of poetic creation. We will learn the most effective methods to scan poems and how to revise for a natural tone, build on the rhythms in free verse and perform poetry in meter. This delicious metrical adventure is likely to uncover shocking new aspects and potential within your own unique poetic voice and provide you with the tools to continue unraveling that voice yourself for a lifetime.
