The Poet at Work

The Poet at Work

$345.00

What do poets have to say about work? How does capital influence poetry? This workshop asks students to do three things: 1) Respond to the demands of labor on human life; 2) consider how these demands structure language and imagination; and 3) experiment with poetic forms that allow us to interrogate and shift capitalist power dynamics. This workshop will combine robust conversation about readings with a rigorous and empathetic poetry workshop. Readings will include poetry by Gwendolyn Brooks, W.H. Auden, Wendy Xu, Morgan Parker and Jericho Brown, as well as prose by Karl Marx and Toni Morrison.
